Challenges Welcomed
Click on any of the cards below. These challenges pushed my abilities and had a significant impact on my career, driving both personal and professional growth. They helped me develop my craft with tools, refine soft skills, navigate differing opinions, adapt to organizational shifts, collaborate across teams, build knowledge, and more.
In many ways, looking back at these challenges has helped me better understand the problems I've tackled. My case studies and finished work are great for showcasing project context, process, and outcomes, but none of that would matter without first developing a clear understanding of the problem itself. If I didn't fall in love with the right problem, it didn't matter how "good" my solution was, because there's nothing worse than solving the wrong one.
Fragmented Documentation
Disparate sources of truth across 5+ tools
Consolidated documentation spread across more than five tools into a single, authoritative source of truth. Reduced confusion, shortened onboarding time, and ensured designers and engineers had consistent access to accurate, up-to-date guidance.
UI Migration
Migrating from a legacy UI library to a modern framework
Led the strategic migration from a legacy UI library to a modern, scalable framework. Authored migration guides, component mapping documentation, and partnered cross-functionally to minimize disruption while maintaining delivery velocity across product teams.
Introducing Token Methodology
Driving adoption of design tokens within a core design system
Championed the adoption of design tokens across the organization. Built alignment through workshops, live demos, and clear documentation. Implemented a two-tier token architecture (primitives and semantic tokens) that improved theming flexibility and strengthened design-to-development handoff.
Improving Workflows with AI
Evolving standards and workflows to responsibly incorporate AI
Evolved design system standards, defaults, and workflows to incorporate AI tools without compromising quality. Established clear guidelines for responsible AI usage, resulting in measurable efficiency gains across design and development workflows.
Building a Design Systems Team
Establishing a design systems team from the ground up
Built and led a centralized design systems team through influence-based leadership. Supported and coordinated a cross-functional group including:
- 8 designers
- 1 content writer
- 2 product managers
- 3 engineers
Created operating norms, ownership models, and collaboration patterns that scaled across the organization.
Table Component Innovation
Table components and patterns that dramatically reduced iteration time
Introduced a robust collection of table components and usage patterns with significant impact:
- Reduced design iteration time from 1–2 days to 2–4 hours
- Lowered operational and build costs for engineering
- Standardized data table patterns across multiple products
In-Product Onboarding
End-user onboarding with measurable business impact
Designed and introduced an in-product onboarding experience for end users, resulting in:
- 250 hours saved annually (500 operators × 30 minutes)
- $5–10K per year in reduced training costs
- $10–12K saved through reduced user education support tickets
- Faster time to file and respond to support requests
Office Hours Program
Office hours program unblocking teams at scale
Hosted 65 design systems office hours sessions, providing direct support and unblocking design and engineering teams across the product organization. Established a culture of accessibility, trust, and shared ownership between the design system and product teams.
Component Workshops
Targeted workshops driving design system evolution
Facilitated 10 micro workshops over one year, directly contributing to:
- 48 published enhancements to the design system
- 16 net-new components
- 11 enhanced or modernized existing components
Used workshops as a lightweight, high-impact mechanism for alignment and continuous improvement.
